STRATEGIC PLANNINGCOMMUNICATIONS OPPORTUNITIES
1/15/20262 min read

After the first two weeks of the year to ease back in, and as seats at the World Economic Forum are about to get warm next week, it's time to finalise our 2026 strategic communications calendars.
The world's political, business, and civil society leaders gather in Davos, alongside global media 9-23 of January to set the tone for what's ahead. It is already evident that 2026 will continue on the path of intensity in just about every domain, from the economy to geopolitics.
Once Davos wraps, the year-long events sprint begins: India Energy Week, LNG2026, CERAWeek, Flame, Africa Energy Forum, regional summits, investor days, policy roundtables, and countless other gatherings, each competing for your budget, your bandwidth, and your time.
Before getting swept up in it, now is the moment to step back and think strategically about where and how best to show up, be seen, heard, and connect with the stakeholders who matter most, whether that is investors, financiers, policymakers, regulators, communities, or industry partners.
We always recommend starting with your strategic objectives for the year, then matching them to the tactical opportunities that will get you there faster and most cost-effectively. Events are one lever, but not the only one.
For conferences specifically, the value usually lies in the face to face. Being in the same place with potential customers, partners, investors, and key stakeholders offers great time leverage. It is also a chance to get your messages or test them in the public domain and connect with journalists. Exhibition space and sponsorships can bring great exposure too, but they usually come with a significant price tag. If this is where you want to play, plan these commitments more than a year ahead. Costs rise and flexibility disappears fast as event dates approach.
When assessing each opportunity, don't make the mistake of comparing money costs alone. Consider the full resource outlay - executive time, travel complexity, team bandwidth, preparation effort, and weigh it against the realistic benefits. You don't need to be everywhere. Be relentless about prioritising and comfortable saying no to things outside your strategy, however tempting the visibility.
This is why taking a bird's eye view in January is so important. To help with that, we're sharing our curated global and regional energy events calendar with over 90 events.
Some, like the major governance meetings or Davos, are policy-shaping moments worth monitoring for messaging opportunities elsewhere. Others are regional gatherings with local or global significance. We've also marked the flagship events we'll be watching, but your priorities may be defined differently. Each business will have its own ideal mix for the best strategic value.
One note: this list is comprehensive but not exhaustive. Keep scanning the landscape throughout the year. And if you'd like a hand choosing the right events, or preparing for the ones you've picked, we're here, and we will be thrilled to help.
